Maison St Georges is a 3 bedroom stone built holiday cottage with a private swimming pool between Bordeaux and Bergerac France. Set in a rural location and a short drive to ancient towns.

Situated between Bordeaux, Bergerac and Saint Emilion near the border of the Dordogne in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region of south west France, making it an ideal location to explore this beautiful region of France.

This holiday gite is within a short drive of the ancient Bastide town centre’s of Monsegur 4km (Gironde) and Duras 5km (Lot et Garonne), both towns have bars, restaurants, banks, shops and supermarkets as well as weekly farmers markets and night market in the peak summer months.

Just a short drive from the XIII century bastide town of Monsegur and historic Duras, both with shops, supermarkets, pharmacy, bank, post office, hairdressers, beauty salon, bars, cafes, tourist offices, weekly markets and summer night market. Enjoy the many fetes and musical events.

Open plan kitchen and living area

On the ground floor there is a beautifully appointed light and airy 60 square metre open plan fitted kitchen, dining & living room with doors leading out to the garden terraces, pool, laundry room and day room and parking area. The kitchen has a centre island with bar stools and is very well equipped. The farmhouse style dining table seats 8 guests. The comfortable sitting room has 2 x 3 seater sofas & an antique style wooden settle. The satellite TV has Freeview English channels. Free telephone calls via the internet. DVD player and films, books and games.
Separate laundry room.

Twin beds 90cm x 200cm, beds can be pushed together if you wish plus an additional single bed.
Next to a bathroom with bath and overhead shower, basin, w.c. and heated towel rail.

Cleaning/towels/linen

Bed linen, bath towels and pool towels are provided and included in the price.
Weekly supply of bed linen supplied for stays of 2 weeks or more.

Travel cot with bedding and a high chair is available.

Private pool

Octagonal pool 4.6m wide / long with a depth of approximately 1.2m. The swimming pool is secured by an alarm, there is a solar bubble cover which is used to raise the pool temperature if put on during the day and helps keep the water temperature of used at night. Decked terrace with sun loungers and parasols.

Outside / Gardens

Adjoining the house is the original pigsty which was converted to become a day room & laundry room. Conveniently situated for the garden, terraces and pool the laundry room has the usual facilities plus a sink and wc – ideal for guests using the pool. The day room also has a day bed.
There is table tennis and boules. Covered gravel dining terrace with table and 8 chairs. Grass raised terrace with dining table &and chairs. Attractive garden with large lawn and wooded areas. Covered parking area.

Located in the heart of the Bordeaux famous wine region where there are plenty of vineyards for tastings and tours. The picturesque towns of Duras and Monsegur are a short drive to excellent dining and shopping and the local farmhouses and countryside perfect for exploring.

Coast / Beach

A fresh water lake with sandy beach at Blasimon is just 25km away and is a popular attraction to take children for a day out. The gently shelving sand provides a safe, fun environment for splashing around and cooling off in the heat of the summer sun. Blasimon lake.

The famous sandy bay at Arcachon (146km) with Europes tallest sand dune, Dune du Pilat. This is the start of a 150 mile long sandy beach south past Biscarosse, or while the day away meander your way around Arcachon and enjoy a relaxing lunch in one of the many French restaurants.

A refundable security bond of £500 is payable with the balance which is returned within 7 days of departure subject to a satisfactory inspection.

Maison St Georges is situated near the towns of Monsegur (4km) and Duras (5km) in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the borders of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, France.

Bordeaux city centre is a 72km drive to the west and Bergerac is 45km to the east, Saint Émilion 43km north.

This is the ideal base from which to explore South West France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.

This region is famous for its wines and wonderful gastronomy. Whether you are in St. Emilion, Pomerol, Blaye, The Médoc, Entre Deux Mers, Bourg, Graves or Sauterne the wines of the region are without doubt some of the very best in the world!
There are local producers near this holiday home that offer very good quality produce at a very reasonable price.

The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect cycling country!

Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops including cafes, bars and a pizzeria which host’s weekly live music.
There is also Cinema Eden in Monsegur, which does show international films in their original language version (VO), a selection of English speaking films with French subtitles.

The market squares are also hosts the many festivals and events throughout the year.

Wine and Gastronomy

The Bordeaux wine region has 21 appellations. Visit some of the many local Caves and Chateau who offer free tastings and tours while you choose a bottle or two.

Not to be missed is the world famous St Emilion. A designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.

Canoeing and kayaking

Canoe hire is available on the rivers. The river Dropt winds through the valley with a slow flow on it.
The Dordogne river at Sainte Foy has a faster pace but has plenty of canoe hire opportunities and literally just go with the flow and be picked up further down stream. Of course the easiest way is a boat trip and let some one else do the work.

Most villages and towns hold weekly markets full of fresh and interesting local produce. An ideal place to pick up your holiday mementoes and gifts.
Both Monsegur and Duras also have night markets during the summer where you can eat and have a drink as well as browse the many stalls.

Duras: Every Monday from 8.30 to 14:00 (closes at 12:00 from September to June). Nice market, excellent Organic veg’s & fruit producer, Nicolas. Excellent organic goat cheese producers too… Foie gras, Magrets and so on by Mr & Mrs Ros…excellent! …. and many stands of food/non food.
Allemans du Dropt (14km): Every Sunday morning.
Sainte Foy La Grande (24km): Every Saturday from 8.30 to 12:00. Quite big market with excellent producers.
Monségur: Every Friday from 8.30 to 12. Nice small market with good fish stand next to the restaurant Le Grand Cep and fantastic pork butcher under the covered market.
Issigeac (46km): Every Sunday morning.
Eymet (25km): Every Thursday morning.

Night markets

From 1st of July till End of August, very successful, where you can eat and dance, with many craft and food stands. Go early if you want to park close to the village.
Duras (5km) Night market: Every Thursday evening till end of August.
Lévignac de Guyenne (7km) Night market: Every Friday evening till end of August.
Monsegur (4km) Night market. Every Wednesday evening till mid of September.
