La Grande Ramière is a significant historic country house, parts of which are more than 700 years old. Formerly an important Knights Templar fortified stronghold, (local legend claims that part of the lost Templar treasure of Jacques de Molay is still buried under the property!) the estate was also the first vineyard to be registered under the Cotes de Duras appellation.

This holiday gite was originally an outbuilding used by the Knights Templars as kitchens and servants’ quarters, then in later years as a wine-making chai.

The house stands in an elevated position, with outstanding panoramic views of the historic town and Chateau of Duras just 2km away, and the picturesque surrounding countryside, with vineyards, sunflowers and prune orchards.

Duras is only 2km, a lively and popular town with weekly market, restaurants, shops & other amenities, is 3 minutes away by car or a gentle 25 minutes walk. In July and August there is a lively night market every Thursday with music, food and other attractions.

This holiday gite is attached to the owners accommodation however every effort has been made to afford privacy to both the owners and guests, neither of which are overlooked by the other, with the gite having its own private entrance.

Lovely comfortable property.  We were made very welcome. We all really loved the stunning salt water pool.  Stunning views in the evening sitting on the terrace whilst eating outside. Thank you.
Trish C, September 2016

Amazing views, perfect and tranquil surroundings along with everything you could think of in terms of facilities make this house the perfect setting for your family stay in South West France.  We’d visited Duras previously so knew what the area had in store for us but with Gerry and Caroline’s kind assistance and knowledge we visited lots of new places and lovely restaurants.  From the heated pool to the swing chairs, this place was exactly what we in mind when searching for our family holiday.  A little piece of paradise but just a stone’s throw from a busy and vibrant small town – perfect!
