Le Galice offers two well-appointed holiday homes with a shared swimming pool* in a beautiful countryside setting. Accommodating up to 14 guests over 6 bedrooms. The welcoming and discreet owners live on-site in a separate property. Pretty, landscaped grounds surround the properties with walks around the garden and a lake.
Situated between Bordeaux and Bergerac near the Dordogne, close to Saint Emilion in southwest France.

*The pool is shared with Catherine, Laurent and their son, who live on-site and have a lovely collection of animals including a friendly Collie dog, a cat, chickens and goats.
Situated near the towns of Duras (6km) and Monsegur (15km) in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the border of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne.
These picturesque bastide towns are host to weekly traditional French markets where the villagers shop for local produce and meet friends, enjoy a coffee and croissant and watch the world go by. A popular night market is also held each week during the summer months where street food and entertainment are the backdrops for the evening. Each town offers a good selection of restaurants, cafés, bars, pharmacies and banks with ATMs as well as the all-important boulangerie for fresh croissants and crusty bread and handmade delicious chocolates and gifts.
A comprehensive Carrefour supermarket and petrol station can be found at Duras (6km) or Monsegur (15km). Larger hypermarkets are available in Sainte-Foy la Grande 18km away.
Le Galice is made up of two separate gites, Grand Galice and Petit Galice, you are renting both gites and all of the guest facilities.
Grand Galice
Grand Galice is a renovated old farmhouse offering 125 m2 of modern accommodation whilst retaining the charm of the original building.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
A hairdryer is provided in each bathroom.
Bedroom 1: Spacious room with wood-panelled walls. Large double bed (160cm wide). Electric radiator. Stylish en-suite shower room with walk-in rainfall shower, washbasin and WC.
Bedroom 2: Charming room with feature stone wall. Large double bed (160cm wide). Electric radiator. Spacious bathroom with walk-in shower, washbasin and WC shared with bedroom 3.
Bedroom 3: Twin room (each bed 90cm wide) with a mezzanine level which has a double bed (140cm wide) and a room fan. Electric radiator. Spacious bathroom with walk-in shower, washbasin and WC shared with bedroom 2.
Children Facilities
2 cots and 1 high chair can be provided upon request. Please provide your own bed linen for the cots. There are no stair gates as there are only a few steps around the property, with the exception of those to the mezzanine area in bedroom 3.
Kitchen/diner
Bright and airy kitchen diner with a large dining table with benches and chairs.
Single oven, 4 ring halogen hob, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, Cafetiere, Krups Dolce Gusto coffee machine and a washing machine.
Living room
Spacious living room with L-shaped sofa, 2 armchairs, TV with TNT Satellite TV with French and some English channels. A wood-burning stove and wooden beamed ceiling give the room a cosy feel in the cooler months.
Outside space
An interior courtyard provides a private place to relax outside. There is also a covered terrace at the rear of the property with a dining table and chairs with views over the grounds, nice for alfresco dining.
Petit Galice
Petit Galice is a renovated old farmhouse offering 85 m2 of modern accommodation whilst retaining the charm of the original building.

A hairdryer is provided in the bathroom.

Bedroom 2: Cosy twin room (each bed 90cm wide) with a wood-panelled feature wall. Electric radiator.

All rooms share a luxurious bathroom with a walk-in rainfall shower and washbasin. The washing machine is located in this room. There is a separate WC.

A cot and high chair can be provided upon request. Please provide your own bed linen for the cot.
Kitchen
Modern kitchen with facilities including:
Countertop mini-oven, 4 ring halogen hob, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, Cafetiere, Krups Dolce Gusto coffee machine.
(Note: the washing machine is located in the shower room.)
Living/dining room
Cosy living room with feature stone wall. Sofa, armchair, TV with TNT Satellite TV with French and some English channels. Dining table and chairs for 6 guests. Electric radiator.
Outside space
A covered terrace at the front of the property with a dining table and chairs with views over the grounds is lovely for alfresco dining.
Wi-Fi
Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided. The average speed is 30 Mbps download and 6 Mbps upload, this is a rural location and speeds may vary for various reasons.
Cleaning / towels / linen
Bed linen and bath towels are provided and are included in the price. The owners will provide access to a washing machine to launder bed linen and towels on request. Please provide your own pool towels.
Children Facilities
A cot and high chair can be provided upon request, x1 for each gite.
Garden and lake
The grounds surround the 3 properties with rural views. There are animals including a friendly Collie dog, a cat, chickens and goats.
A pleasant walk takes you down to the lake where you can walk around the lake, maybe sit and watch the wildlife, if you are still and very quiet you will see deer. The lake has many species of fish, maybe do a little fishing.
A purpose-made boules court is good fun. There is a large children’s trampoline.
Heated wimming pool
The 11m x 5m chlorine pool, a straw hut and parasols provide shelter from the summer sun.
The pool is shared between the 2 gites and with the owners who live next door, Catherine, Laurent and their son.

Games barn
The large games barn has plenty of seating and has table tennis and table football.
Dog friendly
A maximum of 2 dogs is considered on request at an extra charge, plus an additional security bond.
Dogs are not permitted in the bedrooms or on soft furnishings. They are not allowed in the pool. You must clean up after the dog. Dogs are only considered if you are renting both gites together.

Located in the heart of the Bordeaux famous wine region where there are plenty of vineyards for tastings and tours. The picturesque towns of Duras and Monsegur are a short drive to excellent dining and shopping and the local farmhouses and countryside are perfect for exploring. Weekly farmers markets, restaurants, cycle hire and local adventure park.
Cycle hire delivered to the door with all safety equipment supplied, electric cycles are also available in the area.

A freshwater lake with a sandy beach at Blasimon is just 35km away and is a popular attraction to take children for a day out. The gently shelving sand provides a fun environment for splashing around and cooling off in the heat of the summer sun. Blasimon lake.
Aqua Park is 31km located near Bergerac. Beach, canoeing and a water park.
Aqua Fun Park near Casteljaloux is 56km. Park with a huge freshwater lake, picnic benches, walks, facilities, man-made sandy beach, water sports, kids play area…. great for adults and kids.
Visit Europe’s largest sand dune 156km, the Dune du Pilat where both the climb and the views will take your breath away! Reward yourself with fresh seafood from the Bay of Arcachon or take the ferry to Cap Ferret and feel the sand between your toes whilst you enjoy oysters and chilled white wine.
Chocolate
Yes, we believe chocolate is also an activity, we often have to visit to make sure the quality is up to standard… Maison Guinguet, near Duras. A nice shop to visit, selling chocolate, gifts and offers guided visits to their artisan factory in July and August. 8km.
Duras Castle
The famous Chateau de Duras. It’s well worth a visit, climb to the top and see the stunning 360-degree vista. 6km.
Tea room with gardens
Jardin de Boissona has six little gardens, each with its own character. Outside and inside seating. Known for their teas and delicious cakes. 9km.

Reservation Information
No booking fee. A 25% deposit secures a reservation with the balance payable 8 weeks before rental commencement.
A refundable security bond of €1000 (€500 for each gite) is payable with the balance which is returned within 7 days of departure subject to a satisfactory inspection.

The local area and what to do, Monsegur / Duras, Bordeaux and the Dordogne, France
Le Galice is situated near the towns of Monsegur (15km) and Duras (6km) in the region of Nouvelle Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the borders of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, France.
Bordeaux city centre is a 90km drive to the west and Bergerac is 36km to the east, Saint Emilion is 50km away.
This is the ideal base from which to explore South West France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.
The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect cycling country!
Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops including cafes, bars and a pizzeria which host’s weekly live music.
There is also Cinema Eden in Monsegur, which does show international films in their original language version (VO), a selection of English speaking films with French subtitles.
The market squares are host to many festivals and events throughout the year.
Wine and Gastronomy
This region is famous for its wines and wonderful gastronomy. Whether you are in St. Emilion, Pomerol, Blaye, The Médoc, Entre Deux Mers, Bourg, Graves or Sauterne the wines of the region are without doubt some of the very best in the world!
There are local producers near this holiday home that offer very good quality products at a very reasonable price.
The Bordeaux wine region has 21 appellations. Visit some of the many local Caves and Chateau that offer free tastings and tours while you choose a bottle or two.
Not to be missed is the world-famous St Emilion (50km), a designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.
Bordeaux
This designated world heritage site is a must for all visitors. This cosmopolitan city offers a diverse range of attractions. The golden triangle has a fabulous range of shops for those shopaholics.
A rich variety of architecture forms the backdrop for the street cafes, restaurants, bars and not forgetting the superb Grand Theatre.
Dordogne
The Dordogne is just one of the many places to visit for day trips. Anything from canoeing or boat trips on the Dordogne river at Bergerac to exploring the wonderful and pretty ancient villages.

The countryside around our properties is popular for cycling, whether it’s just a gentle ride around to explore or if you are a keen cyclist, a long training ride on fantastic stretches of road to get the blood pumping whilst taking in the fantastic views.

Public tennis courts
Good quality courts are located in St Sernin de Duras (4km) also in Monsegur and Duras, usually booked via the local tourist information office.
Canoeing and kayaking
Canoe hire is available on the rivers. The river Dropt winds through the valley with a slow flow on it.
The Dordogne river at Sainte Foy has a faster pace but has plenty of canoe hire opportunities and literally just go with the flow and be picked up further downstream. Of course, the easiest way is a boat trip and let someone else do the work.

Golf
There are many pay and play golf courses within the area, the best being the beautiful Chateau Des Vigiers Golf and Country Club 16km. The chateau dates back to 1597 and is set in 450 acres of stunning countryside. Facilities also include a fine restaurant and a relaxing beauty spa. Markets
Most villages and towns hold weekly markets full of fresh and interesting local produce. An ideal place to pick up your holiday mementoes and gifts.
Both Monsegur and Duras also have night markets during the summer where you can eat and have a drink as well as browse the many stalls.
Duras (6km): Every Monday from 8.30 to 14:00 (closes at 12:00 from September to June). Nice market, excellent Organic veggies and fruit producer, Nicolas. Excellent organic goat cheese producers too… Foie gras, Magrets and so on by Mr & Mrs Ros…excellent! …. and many stalls of food/non-food.
Sainte Foy La Grande (19km): Every Saturday from 8.30 to 12:00. Quite a big market with excellent producers.
Monségur (15km): Every Friday from 8.30 to 12. Nice small market with a good fish stand next to the restaurant Le Grand Cep and a fantastic pork butcher under the covered market.
Issigeac (41km): Every Sunday morning.
Eymet (20km): Every Thursday morning.
Night markets
From 1st of July till End of August, very successful, where you can eat and dance, with many craft and food stalls. Go early if you want to park close to the village.
Duras (6km) Night market: Every Thursday evening till the end of August.
Lévignac de Guyenne (12km) Night market: Every Friday evening till the end of August.
Monsegur (15km) Night market. Every Wednesday evening till mid of September.
Supermarkets
Carrefour Contact supermarket – just out of Duras on the direction of Sainte Foy La Grande. Small but very well stocked (includes English part). Open from 8 am to 8 pm nonstop from Mondays to Saturdays. Sundays from 9 am to 1 pm. 5km.

Everything about Galice was perfect; the two houses together suited us all perfectly for my 70th celebrations! Laurent & Catherine were charming and they did everything to make our visit a success. The houses are well equipped and tastefully furnished – much of it Laurent’s own work. the games room was an unexpected bonus. The pool, with its shallow step, was perfect for the grandchildren learning to swim. Laurent maintained and cleaned the pool regularly. The walk around the lake, the boulodrome and the trampoline all had good use and the owners’ house is far enough away so that none of our activities seemed to disturb them. For those wanting an early morning walk or even a run the little roads around suited the energetic ones in our family. We made the most of the fete in Duras and Catherine was kind enough to advise us on suitable activities and outings for the grandchildren. We will be returning very soon.
Galice was a little corner of paradise. The pictures do not do it justice. Catherine and Laurent were delightful and so very helpful. The gite is perfectly equipped and perfectly finished. Ideally located to explore the amazing countryside. Lots for families to see and explore. The pool is amazing and the barn is a great addition for keeping everyone entertained. We really enjoyed our stay.
