Le Pavillon de Chasse: 16th-Century Hunting Lodge, now a Holiday Home with a Private Heated Pool situated between Bordeaux and Bergerac in SW France

Experience the unique charm of Le Pavillon de Chasse, an authentic 16th-century hunting lodge transformed into a characterful holiday home. Set in a serene location on the outskirts of the small village of St Sernin, the lodge has retained its historic soul with original wooden staircases, internal doors, and character beams. The carefully curated decor, furnishings, and artwork beautifully complement this historic retreat.

Ideally located for exploring Southwest France, the lodge is just a 1 km walk from the village of St Sernin, where you will find La Clé des Champs a very simple epicerie/cafe-bar/restaurant that sells a few basics from bread to fresh vegetables to home-made desserts and wine, plus food most nights and a regular specials menu. Also public tennis courts.

This spacious holiday rental accommodates up to 8 adults across 4 bedrooms, plus a charming bunk room for 2 children.

Important note: Balconies are located in bedroom 2, the sitting room, dining room, and the covered back terrace. Balcony railings must not be climbed, and children should be supervised at all times.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

The lodge features four double bedrooms, each equipped with a fan, hairdryer, and private en-suite shower room. The layout provides privacy across two floors.

Upper Floor

  • Bedroom 1: Extra-large bed (180cm x 200cm), which can be configured as two single beds. Views overlook the covered terrace and pool.
  • Bedroom 2: King-size bed (150cm x 200cm) with a Juliet balcony.
  • Children’s Room: A cute bunk room for two children is located just off Bedroom 2, set within the characterful pigeon tower and accessed via a short ladder.

Lower Floor

  • Bedroom 3: Extra-large bed (180cm x 200cm), which can be configured as two single beds. Features a door leading to a private terrace with seating.
  • Bedroom 4: King-size bed (150cm x 200cm) with French doors opening onto a terrace.

Living, Kitchen and Dining

The rustic farmhouse-style kitchen is open to the dining area, which comfortably seats eight and features two Juliet balconies. The kitchen is fully equipped with a range cooker, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, and microwave. A washing machine and ironing facilities are located in the ground-floor utility room.

Le Pavillon de Chasse offers two distinct living spaces:

  • Upper Floor Sitting Room: Featuring a magnificent fireplace and a balcony with panoramic views over the countryside and Lake Castel Gaillard—the perfect spot for an evening aperitif.
  • Lower Floor Lounge: A more casual space equipped with a Smart TV (English Freesat) and a selection of books and board games.

Private Heated Pool and Garden

The private, heated saltwater pool (8m x 3.8m) has a consistent depth of 1.4m and features walk-in corner steps and a useful shallow ledge. The pool is protected by an alarm and surrounded by a sun terrace with loungers and parasols.

At the rear of the lodge, a covered, shaded terrace overlooks the garden and pool, featuring a dining table for 10 and a comfortable, informal seating area. A separate side terrace includes a charcoal BBQ and a ping-pong table for guest use.

Off-road parking

Private off-road parking for 2 cars. Additional parking is available opposite the lodge on the road; it is a quiet, no-through country road with just 3 other houses.

Travel and Local Area

Le Pavillon de Chasse is surrounded by historic Bastide towns and castles, many of which host vibrant weekly farmers’ markets and summer night markets. A car is essential.

No booking fee.

A 25% deposit secures a reservation, with the balance payable 8 weeks before the rental commences.
An £800 security bond will be pre-authorised on a credit card 7–10 days before arrival and released after departure, subject to a satisfactory inspection.

Private swimming pool

The pool is open for all rental dates. While the pool is heated, temperatures may vary depending on weather conditions and other factors.

Included in the price

Bed linen, bath towels and pool towels.
A supply of fresh bed linen and bath towels is provided weekly for bookings of 2 weeks or more.

Additional charges

Taxe de Sejour (Tourism Tax) applicable to adults aged 18 and over. Calculated based on the number of guests and the rental rate. Payable with the balance. Please contact us to confirm the cost.

Le Pavillon de Chasse is situated near the historical towns of Duras 6km (Lot et Garonne), Monsegur 16km (Gironde), Sainte-Foy-La-Grande 18km, Eymet 18km (Dordogne) all with weekly markets and restaurants, set in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the borders of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne in SW France.

There are also public tennis courts.
The main restaurant in the village seems to be now closed, if it will re-open for the season we are not sure.

Bordeaux city centre is a 105km drive to the west, Bergerac is 38km to the east and Saint Émilion 47km northwest.

An ideal base for exploring southwest France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne, it is considered one of the most picturesque areas of France.

Beautiful and peaceful, very high quality.
Beautiful, large home and pool in a stunning setting. Nick was very responsive and flexible with duration of stay. Very high quality interiors including bedding and towels. Jayne and team were very helpful and responsive also throughout the stay. Peaceful location yet close by car to Duras – definitely recommend this home. Added bonus of seeing lots of birds of prey including Peregrine Falcons.

Great property and location.
The property and location are amazing. 5 adults and 5 children stayed everyone loved the pool and the outside terrace was fabulous for eating and relaxing. Nick was very attentive and helpful with his prompt replies, info and communication. Jayne and Roy were very helpful and accommodating once at the property. Lovely pool and outside spaces. Views of the lake are very serene. Comprehensive info on the house and how things work. Ideal location for visiting both small villages and the main attractions. Great local walks in the surrounding countryside. Very quiet and peaceful.

Perfect!
What a wonderful house to holiday in! We were 10 adults in total, so using all the accommodation, and there was still plenty of space ! The house is so well equipped and had everything we needed and more! The beds were super comfy with beautiful cotton Egyptian bedding. Towels were provided along with pool towels. The bathrooms , especially the newly refurbished ones were great, with upper showers and always plenty of hot water. We ate outside on the veranda mainly, although were forced inside due to mixed weather! We were still able to sit 10 around the dinning table. We even lit the fire in the upstairs lounge one evening which made the room super cosy and warm! We used the BBQ just once, but this is in a lovely sunny area! We also played table tennis, which was great fun and enjoyed the archery! Jane ( local housekeeper) was helpful on our arrival and again when we saw her on our departure. A lovely house in a lovely area! Would love to go back!

Stunning Place.
Absolutely stunning place! The house is huge and beautiful inside, particularly the bedrooms and bathrooms on the top floor. Wonderful, big kitchen with everything one needs and more. Beautiful terrace and a lovely pool. Enough space to play ball games on the grass. Very much enjoyed the ping pong table. Duras is 8min away and a lovely town. Recommend the night market there on Thursdays. We were two families with 4 children aged 11-15 and everyone had a fantastic time and hardly wanted to leave the place.

Such a beautiful place to stay.
This was our second visit and everything was just a gorgeous as the previous year. So tastefully decorated, clean with everything one could wish for. We really did not want to leave!
