Just a short drive to the medieval bastide town of Monségur (6km) with its colourful Friday market and shops and restaurants under the colonnades in the square. Visit nearby Duras (11km), dominated by its 13th century castle or explore the renowned vineyards of St. Emilion, Pomerol and Graves.

Les Lauriers dates from the 18th century and originally a farmhouse, the property has been carefully restored; the retention of features such as exposed beams and stone walls with terracotta tiled floors captures the charm and ambiance of this old building.

Accessed from a private road and set in its own gardens with mature trees and flowering shrubs, there are terraces back and front so al-fresco meals in shade or sunshine can be enjoyed, relax by the private pool and surrounding sun terrace area.

Located in the heart of the Bordeaux famous wine region where there are plenty of vineyards for tastings and tours. There are many picturesque towns in the region, nearest are Duras and Monsegur with restaurants, café bars, shops and the beautiful historical countryside for you to explore. not too far away are Saint Foy La Grande and the world famous Saint Emilion.

Coast and Beach

A fresh water lake with sandy beach at Blasimon is just 20km away and is a popular attraction to take children for a day out. The gently shelving sand provides a safe, fun environment for splashing around and cooling off in the heat of the summer sun. Blasimon lake.

The famous sandy bay at Arcachon (146km) with Europes tallest sand dune, Dune du Pilat. This is the start of a 150 mile long sandy beach south past Biscarosse, or while the day away meander your way around Arcachon and enjoy a relaxing lunch in one of the many French restaurants.

The local area and what to do, Monsegur / Duras, Bordeaux and the Dordogne, France

Les Lauriers is situated near the towns of Monsegur (6km) and Duras (11km) in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the borders of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, France.

Bordeaux city centre is a 66km drive to the west and Bergerac is 46km to the east, Saint Émilion 37km north.

This is the ideal base from which to explore South West France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.

This region is famous for its wines and wonderful gastronomy. Whether you are in St. Emilion, Pomerol, Blaye, The Médoc, Entre Deux Mers, Bourg, Graves or Sauterne the wines of the region are without doubt some of the very best in the world!
There are local producers near this holiday home that offer very good quality produce at a very reasonable price.

The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect cycling country!

Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops including cafés with refreshments and a pizzeria which host’s weekly live music.
There is also Cinema Eden in Monsegur, which does show international films in their original language version (VO), a selection of English speaking films with French subtitles.

The market squares are also hosts the many festivals and events throughout the year.

Wine and Gastronomy

So many Vineyards and wine tastings in the area, the nearest are:
2.7km, 3 Faurie, 33580 Dieulivol. Tasting available, the sparkling is a good option.
3km, Good table wine especially the red, this will be the first year for the rose, ideally by the box, buy direct only, part of the Accrobranche park.
The Bordeaux wine region has 21 appellations. Visit some of the many local Caves and Chateau who offer free tastings and tours while you choose a bottle or two.

Not to be missed is the world famous St Emilion 37km. A designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.

This designated world heritage site is a must for all visitors. This cosmopolitan city offers a diverse range of attractions. The golden triangle has a fabulous range of shops for those shopaholics.
A rich variety of architecture forms the backdrop for the street cafe’s, restaurants, bars and not forgetting the superb Grand Theatre.


The Dordogne is just one of the many places to visit for day trips. Anything from Canoeing or boat trips on the Dordogne river at Bergerac to exploring ancient villages.

Visit Europe’s largest sand dune 139km, the Dune du Pilat where both the climb and the views will take your breath away! Reward yourself by feasting on fresh seafood around the Bay of Arcachon or take the ferry to Cap Ferret and feel the sand between your toes whilst you enjoy oysters and chilled white wine.

Yes we believe chocolate is also an activity… we often have to visit and make sure the quality is up to standard so we can continue to recommend this.
Maison Guinguet gourmet chocolate, they have a very nice shop to visit next to their artisan factory. 12km away.

Good quality courts are located in Monsegur, Duras & St Sernin de Duras and are usually booked via the local tourist information office.

Canoeing and kayaking

Canoe hire is available on the rivers. The river Dropt winds through the valley with a slow flow on it.
The Dordogne river at Sainte Foy has a faster pace but has plenty of canoe hire opportunities and literally just go with the flow and be picked up further down stream. Of course the easiest way is a boat trip and let some one else do the work.

Most villages and towns hold weekly markets full of fresh and interesting local produce. An ideal place to pick up your holiday mementoes and gifts.
Both Monsegur and Duras also have night markets during the summer where you can eat and have a drink as well as browse the many stalls.

Duras: Every Monday from 8.30 to 14:00 (closes at 12:00 from September to June). Nice market, excellent Organic veg’s & fruit producer. Excellent organic goat cheese producers too… Foie gras, Magrets and many stands of food/non food.
Allemans du Dropt (24km): Every Sunday morning.
Sainte Foy La Grande (22km): Every Saturday from 8.30 to 12:00. Quite big market with excellent producers.
Monségur (6km): Every Friday from 8.30 to 12. Nice small market with good fish stall and a good butcher.
Issigeac (55km): Every Sunday morning.
Eymet (34km): Every Thursday morning.

Night markets

From 1st of July till End of August, very successful, where you can eat and dance, with many craft and food stands. Go early if you want to park close to the village.
Duras (13km) Night market: Every Thursday evening till end of August.
Lévignac de Guyenne (18km) Night market: Every Friday evening till end of August.
Monsegur (6km) Night market. Every Wednesday evening till mid of September.


Carrefour Contact supermarket – just out of Duras on the direction of Sainte Foy La Grande. Small but very well stocked (includes English part). Open from 8am to 8pm nonstop from Mondays to Saturdays. Sundays from 9 am to 1 pm.
