Blanchet is situated near the towns of Monsegur (6km) and Duras (8km) in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the borders of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, France.

Bordeaux city centre is a 70km drive to the west and Bergerac is 47km to the east, Saint Émilion 40km north.

An ideal base from which to explore the southwest of France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.

The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect walking and cycling country!

Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops, cafés, bars, restaurants and excellent boulangeries in both towns, our favourite being La Choco-Latine in Monsegur which were runners up in the French TV show “La Meilleure Boulangerie de France” in 2019.

We also love the volunteer-run Cinema Eden in Monsegur which shows some international films in their original language version (VOSTF) with French subtitles.

The market squares host a variety of festivals and events throughout the year including in Monsegur the famous 24 Heures de Swing at the beginning of July every year.

Wine and Gastronomy

Vineyards are abundant in the area.
The region is famous for wine and wonderful gastronomy. Whether you are in St. Emilion, Pomerol, Blaye, The Médoc, Entre Deux Mers, Bourg, Graves or Sauterne the wines of the region are without doubt some of the very best in the world! There are local producers nearby that offer excellent quality wines at very reasonable prices through to the higher end of the market.

Not to be missed is the world-famous Saint Emilion 40km. A designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.

Wine tours, a picnic in a vineyard, cheese and wine pairing evenings are available with a local couple Sylvie and Pascal Loving Aquitaine.

Bordeaux

This designated world heritage site is a must for all visitors. This cosmopolitan city offers a diverse range of attractions. The golden triangle has a fabulous range of shops for those shopaholics.
A rich variety of architecture forms the backdrop for the street cafes, restaurants, bars and not forgetting the superb Grand Theatre.

We had a wonderful week at Blanchet – it’s idyllic, and just what we needed for a laid-back, relaxing holiday, with great weather. The house is beautiful and we really enjoyed the indoor and outdoor space. The swimming pool is stunning, and the kids spent most of their time there, just having fun and splashing around. Trips out to local day and night markets were good fun, and a good handful of local restaurants in nearby Monsegur and Duras. Highly recommended, and thank you to Tracy and Fiona for a special holiday.

Great house in a great region.

The house is lovely, spacious, and situated in a great location with great views. The house is well appointed, and the beds were good. Three of the bedrooms are located on the first floor.

There is a great terrace that wraps around most of the house, and that was where we spend most of the time. The kitchen worked really well and had all the essentials you need for cooking, which we did on most nights.

We walked to Monsegur one day, which I think is the closest village with bars and restaurants (I could be wrong). It is a bit of a hike, so you very definitely need a car.

The house has a nice big garden and a swimming pool, which we managed to use a couple of times. I would definitely rent the place again if opportunity arose.

Cheers
Martin
