Living rooms

La Maison Pouyteaux has 2 living rooms providing space for everyone to enjoy:

The Salon.
The largest room in the house, this is the place where everywhere can come together. In the summertime metre, thick stone walls keep the room cool and comfortable. There are two elegant sofas, one of which is fold-out for extra sleeping provision if needed. At one end of the room is the dining area with a fold-out table and chairs that can seat 12. There is plenty of room and another table to increase the seating if indoors is where you really want to be. The front veranda, long and covered, with a view of the garden and the sunset, is most likely the place you will be taking most of your meals.
In the winter the wood burner in the salon is warm and cosy, the perfect place to while away the hours with a good book or play games.

The snug.
A cosy room with 2 sofas, opens to the veranda. There is a TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs. UK Freesat and French free-to-air channels.

Kitchen

The kitchen has every convenience needed to prepare the best gourmet meals. It has a spectacular view of the garden and surrounding countryside. Its facilities include a 5-hob Falcon range with a huge dual oven, Falcon range hood and 2 dishwashers. The refrigerator is a large American style with double doors above and a large pull-out freezer below.

A painted dresser serves as a glass cabinet and larder-type storage. There is a coffee station on the counter opposite which has a hot water kettle, cafetiere and a Tassimo coffee machine. There are ample glasses, cups, plates, bowls and serving dishes for 14 people. There is also a microwave, a blender, a toaster and a Moulinex mixer.

An island in the middle of the room provides increased counter space for food preparation with 4 electrical power outlets and seating for four at the bar.

Large windows and double French doors make this a bright, cheery kitchen. Rural views look out to the surrounding fields with wildlife and vivid sunsets.

Charcoal BBQ is situated outside.

Dining

The dining table is in the main lounge and next to the kitchen and easily seats 12 guests. There is a new but rustic dining table (with built-in ice buckets) and 12 chairs (space for more) on the covered veranda with easy access to the kitchen. This is invariably the favourite location for dining when weather permits as the views and the sunsets can be spectacular. There are also further tables outside of the house, you have options for shade or sun. There is a shady terrace to the rear of the house looking towards the pool. The kitchen’s French double doors open out onto the garden are West facing, the ideal place to sit and view the stunning sunsets over the neighbouring fields.

Utility room

The Laundry room has a washing machine, drying racks and a sink. There is also a large fridge/freezer for guests to use that is in easy reach of the pool and pool room. There is a large shelving rack that has equipment for the BBQ and plastic glasses around the pool area.

Office

Office space with desks and chairs with a wireless printer for guests’ use.

Children and Baby Facilities

2 high chairs and 2 cots are available. Please request these at the time of booking.

Garden and Terraces

There are choices where to sit and eat outside, depending if you want the sun or full shade.
To the front of the house is a covered veranda (southwest facing) with chairs and a view over the pretty front garden and rural views through the valley. At the opposite end of the veranda is a cosy and comfortable seating area to relax.

There is a small shaded terrace to the rear of the house which is in full shade all day except for an early morning coffee; watching as the sun rises (northeast-facing). The pool house has a veranda (southwest facing) which is an ideal spot to sit in the sun.

Private heated saltwater swimming pool

The gardens include a 10m x 5m private heated saltwater swimming pool that enjoys full sun and has wide, expansive flagstone terraces for lounging. The pool has an electric slatted cover which provides security for parents with young children.
There are four steps that lead you into the pool, the step depths are 35cm, 55cm, 85cm, and 110cm. The whole pool is a uniform 1.4 meters in depth. There is a full-width step the entire width of the pool, it is 35cm deep and ideal to sit on and relax.
The pool is professionally managed and maintained during your stay.

Designed for ease of use and beauty, affording a lovely place to spend the day or evening relaxing with family and friends.

The swimming pool is immediately accessible from the salon. An adjacent covered terrace provides the perfect place for breakfast on cool mornings when it is bathed by the morning sun.

The pool room

A separate pool room sits adjacent to the swimming pool. Measuring 4mx7m it’s the perfect place for children to play or maybe just a nice place to sit and read quietly in the shade. Facilities include a full-size table tennis table, chairs for relaxing, games, a TV and a DVD player with a variety of children’s DVDs which makes this an ideal place for them to retreat to from the midday sun. There are a number of comfortable and large beanbags to relax on. There is also a small table and chairs.
A covered veranda faces south and offers shade from the sun and marvellous views of the surrounding countryside. We personally think it’s ideal for afternoon or late evening cocktails whilst watching the sun go down over the fields.

Cycle hire and electric cycles are available to hire in the area. Cycle hire information page.

Our tips on what to do in Ste Foy, Bordeaux, Bergerac, Eymet, Monsegur, Duras and the Dordogne, South West France

La Maison Pouyteaux is situated near the towns of Duras 15km (Lot et Garonne), Monsegur 24km (Gironde), and Sainte-Foy-La-Grande 12km.

Situated in the region of Aquitaine, on the border of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, South West France.

Supermarket / shops / markets / boulangerie
The nearest supermarket is only 11km at Pineuilh. Huge hypermarket with a very good fish counter, good meat counter and about everything else you can imagine, oh! and the cheese counter of course…, E.Leclerc pineuilh.

The nearest town with a huge weekly market and local farmer’s produce is Sainte Foy la Grande is just 12km.

There are many ancient local towns to discover, most will have weekly markets and some have summer night markets with stalls, food and music. Duras is 15km, Eymet 17km, Monsegur 24km, Bergerac 27km.

The nearest boulangerie is just 3km away, Epicerie Casse-Croute, Les Éguilles, at Margueron.
Our favourite local boulangerie – Le Fournil Du Malromé, Coulinet, 47120 Saint-Jean-de-Duras. Six minutes by car. Run by a young couple, wood-fired oven with delicious baguettes and pains ronds, and croissants and pains au chocolates on the weekends. Well worth the additional distance, although it is a lovely 30-minute bike ride. Le Fournil Du Malromé Facebook link

Bordeaux city centre is an 84km drive to the west. Bergerac is 28km to the east and Saint Émilion 44km northwest.

An ideal base from which to explore southwest France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.

The region is famous for wine and wonderful gastronomy. Whether you are in St. Emilion, Pomerol, Blaye, The Médoc, Entre Deux Mers, Bourg, Graves, or Sauterne the wines of the region are without doubt some of the very best in the world! There are local producers nearby that offer excellent quality wines at very reasonable prices through to the higher end of the market.

Perfect walking and cycling country, the rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards.

Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops, cafés, bars, restaurants and excellent boulangeries in both towns, our favourite being La Choco-Latine in Monsegur who were runners up in the French TV show “La Meilleure Boulangerie de France” in 2019.

We love the volunteer-run Cinema Eden in Monsegur, they show some international films in their original language version (VO) with French subtitles.

The market squares host a variety of festivals and events throughout the year, Monsegur hosts the famous 24 Heures de Swing at the beginning of July.
