Villa Alouette is a three bedroom French holiday villa, a real home from home serene retreat with stunning 360 degree views around the property, large heated private feature swimming pool. Located between Bordeaux, Bergerac and Saint Emilion near the border of the Dordogne in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region of France.
Nestled into a hillside on a full hectare of private land, this graceful home has 360 degree views across the countryside. Designed by the architect to capture the magnificent and lush landscape within total privacy. From the orchards and wisteria vines to the distant pastures, this home is meant to appreciate nature.
The post and beam architecture, arched entries, alcoves and promenades are a nod to the past but with updated amenities. The spacious entry hall leads into an elegantly appointed living room of comfort, art and sophistication, with high ceilings and lots of light.
The adjacent library and media room is time away for entertainment and reading while the large dining room is the place to gather and enjoy some of the finest local food and wines together. The kitchen is compact and well equipped with state of the art appliances and everything you’ll need for family meals. Multiple French doors open to the terraces, gardens and pool for an indoor outdoor lifestyle.
The large master bedroom features an en-suite bath, shower room, and private dressing area. The bed is electrically adjusted.
Two additional bedrooms on the opposite side of the villa provide an enormous amount of space all with lovely views and private access to the terraces and pool, these bedrooms can be connected or separated.
Master bedroom bed is electrically adjusted and measures 180cm wide 190cm long.
Bedroom 2. Twin bedroom, beds are 90cm wide 190cm long, these can be made as a large double if you wish, en-suite shower room. Shared wc with the Double room, there is an additional wc in the hall way next to the Double room.
Bedroom 3. Double bedroom large double bed, en-suite shower room. Bedroom 3 can be accessed directly from the pool terrace or via bedroom 2.
Each bedroom has a hairdryer supplied for your convenience.
The owner’s enthusiasm of the local culture are reflected in the interiors and were lovingly decorated with detail and warmth to make you feel at home.
With everything to make you feel at home including a flat screen satellite TV in the Master bedroom and a large flat screen satellite TV with DVD player in the media room , Wi-Fi, fully stocked gourmet kitchen with Nespresso machine, comfy furnishings for up to six people and heated floors.
The pool is heated between June and September and features a safety alarm. There is a washing machine, tumble drier in the adjoining laundry/pantry and a spare cot that sleeps one. We’ve also thought of the kids and have included a high chair, swings, toys and table tennis.
The owner is very proud of her gardens, a gardener tends to the plants once every week. The long driveway has plenty of parking.
The home has a state of the art security system.
A quiet rural setting, Villa Alouette is made for relaxing.
The private heated swimming pool
The pool area is one of the highlights of the home. 11m x 5m, it’s large enough and geometrically designed for either swim or play. This part of the garden is a secluded and intimate outdoor space with plenty of lounges and seating for tanning, snoozing under parasols or dining al fresco. The pool is secured by an alarm.

Located in the heart of the Bordeaux famous wine region where there are plenty of vineyards for tastings and tours. The picturesque towns of Duras and Monsegur are a short drive to excellent dining and shopping and the local farmhouses and countryside perfect for exploring.
Situated near the towns of Monsegur and Duras in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the border of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne. Set in the countryside between Bordeaux city and Bergerac, Saint Emilion is a short drive away.
Located in the southwestern Bordeaux region of France in the village of Duras, Villa Alouette is a short train ride to Toulouse and Bordeaux via the St. Foy la Grande or Marmande station. The small local Bergerac Airport is close by with Bordeaux Airport (73 km), Angouleme Airport (117 km), or Toulouse Airport (149 km) being the larger hubs. The nearest train station has regular services to the center of Bordeaux.
These picturesque bastide towns are host to weekly traditional French markets where the villagers shop for local produce and meet friends, enjoy a coffee and croissant and watch the world go by. A popular night market is also held each week during the summer months where street food and entertainment are the backdrop for the evening. Each town offers a good selection of restaurants, cafés, bars, pharmacie & banks with atm’s as well as the all important boulangerie for fresh croissants and crusty bread and beautiful chocolaterie selling hand made delicious chocolates and gifts.
A comprehensive Carrefour supermarket & petrol station can be found at Duras or Monsegur. Larger hypermarkets are available in La Reole (20 mins drive) and Marmande (30 mins drive).

Coast / Beach
A fresh water lake with sandy beach at Blasimon is just 22km away and is a popular attraction to take children for a day out. The gently shelving sand provides a safe, fun environment for splashing around and cooling off in the heat of the summer sun. Blasimon lake.
The famous sandy bay at Arcachon (146km) with Europes tallest sand dune, Dune du Pilat. This is the start of a 150 mile long sandy beach south past Biscarosse, or while the day away meander your way around Arcachon and enjoy a relaxing lunch in one of the many French restaurants.

The local area and what to do, Monsegur / Duras, Bordeaux and the Dordogne, France
Situated near the towns of Monsegur and Duras in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the border of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, France.
Carrefour supermarket – just out of Duras on the direction of Sainte Foy La Grande. Small but very well stocked (includes English part). From 8 am to 8 pm nonstop from Mondays to Saturdays. Sundays from 9 am to 1 pm. Also another Just outside Monsegur on the Duras road.
Baker – Boulangerie, Rue Paul Persil, in Duras. Excellent croissants, fantastic corn flour and rustic breads… Closed on Tuesday and Sunday afternoon..
Butchers – Boucherie Evrard – Rue Paul Persil, in Duras. Good butcher, next to the place du Marché . Closed on Tuesday. And Sunday afternoon.Carrefour Contact, in Monségur has got an excellent butcher section!!! Same opening time Carrefour Contact in Duras.
Bordeaux is approximately just over an hour drive to the west and Bergerac is 45 minutes to the east, St Emilion 30 minutes north.
This is the ideal base from which to explore South West France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.
The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect cycling country!
Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops including cafes, bars and a pizzeria which host’s weekly live music.
There is also a cinema in Monsegur, which does show international films in their original language version (VO).
The market squares are also hosts the many festivals and events throughout the year.
Tree adventure and climbing park

A fresh water lake with sandy beach just 30 minutes from Duras at Blasimon.
Visit Europe’s largest sand dune (approximately 160km), the Dune du Pilat where both the climb and the views will take your breath away! Reward yourself by feasting on fresh seafood around the Bay of Arcachon or take the ferry to Cap Ferret and feel the sand between your toes whilst you enjoy oysters and chilled white wine.
Wine and Gastronomy
The Bordeaux wine region has 21 appellations. Visit some of the many local Caves and Chateau who offer free tastings and tours while you choose a bottle or two.
Not to be missed is the world famous St Emilion, just a short drive away. A designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.
Follow Rick Steins French Odyssey (Bordeaux to Bazas) trail across this region and encounter some of the best culinary experiences France has to offer.
This designated world heritage site is a must for all visitors. This cosmopolitan city offers a diverse range of attractions. The golden triangle has a fabulous range of shops for those shopaholics.
A rich variety of architecture forms the backdrop for the street cafe’s, restaurants, bars and not forgetting the superb Grand Theatre.
The Dordogne is just one of the many places to visit for day trips. Anything from Canoeing or boat trips on the Dordogne river to exploring ancient villages.
The countryside around our properties is perfect for cycling, whether it’s just a gentle ride around to explore or, if you are a keen cyclist, a long training ride on fantastic stretches of road to get the blood pumping whilst taking in the fantastic views.

Good quality courts are located in Monsegur, Duras & St Sernin de Duras and are usually booked via the local tourist information office.
Canoeing and kayaking
Canoe hire is available on the rivers. The river Dropt winds through the valley with a slow flow on it, whilst the large river Garonne (20 minutes away) has a faster pace.
The Dordogne river is an hour away which has a faster pace but has plenty of canoe hire opportunities and literally just go with the flow and be picked up further down stream. Of course the easiest way is a boat trip and let some one else do the work.
The Atlantic coast, with over 150 miles of golden sandy beaches is one and a half hours drive away. Great fun for all the family, simply relax and soak up the sun or try your hand at surfing. Alternatively there are also fresh water lakes with a beach and facilities. The nearest is at Blasimon (about 30 minutes drive) and is very popular with families.
There are many pay and play golf courses within the area, the best being the beautiful Chateau Des Vigiers Golf and Country Club. The chateau dates back to 1597 and is set in 450 acres of stunning countryside. Facilities also include a fine restaurant and relaxing beauty spa. Most villages and towns hold weekly markets full of fresh and interesting local produce. An ideal place to pick up your holiday mementoes and gifts.
Both Monsegur and Duras also have night markets during the summer where you can eat and have a drink as well as browse the many stalls.
Duras: Every Monday from 8.30 to 14:00 (closes at 12:00 from September to June). Nice market, excellent Organic veg’s & fruit producer, Nicolas. Excellent organic goat cheese producers too… Foie gras, Magrets and so on by Mr & Mrs Ros…excellent! …. and many stands of food/non food.
Allemans: Every Sunday morning.
Sainte Foy La Grande: Every Saturday from 8.30 to 12:00. Quite big market with excellent producers.
Monségur: Every Friday from 8.30 to 12. Nice small market with good fish stand next to the restaurant Le Grand Cep and fantastic pork butcher under the covered market.
Issigeac: Every Sunday morning.
Eymet: every Thursday morning.
From 1st of July till End of August, very successful, where you can eat and dance, with many craft and food stands. Go early if you want to park close to the village.
Duras Night market: Every Thursday evening till end of August.
Levignac Night market: Every Friday evening till end of August.
Monsegur Night market. Every Wednesday evening till mid of September.
