Maison de Tilleul is a well-presented, pretty holiday villa with three bedrooms all on the ground-floor level, your own private *heated pool, oak-framed shaded pergola, games room and a large garden. Situated near Bordeaux, Bergerac, Saint Emilion and the Dordogne in southwest France.

Maison de Tilleul has an above-ground pool that is exclusively for your use.

4km to the picturesque village of Allemans du Dropt, sat on the River Dropt, with butchers, boulangerie, canoeing, and a friendly cafe bar and a restaurant. There is a 9 hole golf course within a 15-minute drive. The historic town of Duras, with the famous Chateau Duras, is just 8km away, where you will also find a selection of shops, cafe bars and restaurants as well as a weekly market on Monday mornings and popular night markets every Thursday in the peak summer months.

The garden, which has a 40 ft Lime tree, is over two acres, with well-kept lawns, shrubs, bushes, fruit trees and ample seating for relaxing lazy days and alfresco dining.

Maison de Tilleul is surrounded by great eateries; Monteton (3.5km) where the views are stunning boast a bohemian jazz bar, a fine dining restaurant and a 12th-century church, from the viewpoint you can see the 13 bell towers of nearby churches across the vista. There are also several places to eat nearby Monsegur (15km), Duras and Marmande (21km).

The neighbouring property Maison du Peche will be closed during your stay allowing you to have the entire garden private just for you.
You are able to rent both properties together giving you a further 2 bedrooms for an extra cost, for this option please view Trespontets.

Bedrooms

Luxurious Egyptian cotton bed linen. Hairdryer and fan in each bedroom.

Bedroom 1. A spacious, luxurious room is full of light with a Super King Size bed (180cm x 200cm). Electric shutters to the windows. En-suite shower room and wc.

Bedroom 2. Single bed (90cm x 190cm) with the possibility to add an additional single bed if required.  Electric shutters to the window.

The well-equipped kitchen is modern with a lovely country feel and views over the grounds. Electric oven, gas hob, extractor fan, washing machine, dishwasher, pantry cupboard with microwave, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, cafetière, island unit with stools, fridge freezer.

Beautifully presented open plan living space with two sets of double doors opening onto the alfresco eating terrace and garden.

The garden

2 acres of gardens surround the two properties, each having its own separate driveway/parking.
An oak pergola frames the front of the house providing a superb shady alfresco area with table and chairs seating 10 people and a gas and charcoal BBQ, as well as a more relaxed seating area with exterior sofas and chairs.

Private *heated swimming pool

Your own private above-ground pool measures 3.4m x 6m and is 1.2m deep with a decked surround with loungers and chairs.

The local area and what to do, Allemans du Dropt / Monsegur / Duras, Bordeaux and the Dordogne, France

Maison de Tilleul is situated near the village of Allemans du Dropt 4.2km, by the River Dropt, with horse riding, canoeing, camping and a friendly bar and restaurant. There is a nearby 9 hole golf course within a 15-minute drive and many local walks, hikes and lakes for swimming.

The towns of Monsegur (15km) and Duras (8km) in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the borders of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, France.

Bordeaux city centre is a 100km drive to the west and Bergerac is 40km to the east, Saint Émilion 50km north.

This is the ideal base from which to explore South West France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.

The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect cycling country!

Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops including cafes, bars and a pizzeria which host’s weekly live music.
There is also Cinema Eden in Monsegur, which does show international films in their original language version (VO), a selection of English speaking films with French subtitles.

The market squares also host many festivals and events throughout the year.

Wine and Gastronomy

The Bordeaux wine region has 21 appellations. Visit some of the many local Caves and Chateau that offer free tastings and tours while you choose a bottle or two.

Not to be missed is the world-famous St Emilion 50km. A designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.

Bordeaux

This designated world heritage site is a must for all visitors. This cosmopolitan city offers a diverse range of attractions. The golden triangle has a fabulous range of shops for those shopaholics.
A rich variety of architecture forms the backdrop for the street cafe’s, restaurants, bars and not forgetting the superb Grand Theatre.

Dordogne

The Dordogne is just one of the many places to visit for day trips. Anything from Canoeing or boat trips on the Dordogne river to exploring ancient villages.

Situated near the towns of Duras 7km (Lot et Garonne), Monsegur 6km (Gironde), Sainte-Foy-La-Grande 25km, Bergerac (Dordogne) is 47km, in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the borders of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, France.

Bordeaux city centre is a 70km drive to the west. Bergerac is 47km to the east and Saint Émilion 40km northwest.

The region is famous for wine and wonderful gastronomy. Whether you are in St. Emilion, Pomerol, Blaye, The Médoc, Entre Deux Mers, Bourg, Graves, or Sauterne the wines of the region are without doubt some of the very best in the world! There are local producers nearby that offer excellent quality wines at very reasonable prices through to the higher end of the market.

We also love the volunteer-run Cinema Eden in Monsegur which shows some international films in their original language version (VOSTF) with French subtitles.

The market squares host a variety of festivals and events throughout the year including in Monsegur the famous 24 Heures de Swing at the beginning of July every year.

Activities

Coast, Beach and Water park

A freshwater lake with a sandy beach at Blasimon is just 35km away and is a popular attraction to take children for a day out. The gently shelving sand provides a fun environment for splashing around and cooling off in the heat of the summer sun. Blasimon lake.

Aqua Park is 40km located near Bergerac. Beach, canoeing and a water park.

Aqua Fun Park near Casteljaloux is 47km. Park with a huge freshwater lake, picnic benches, walks, facilities, man-made sandy beach, water sports, kids play area…. great for adults and kids.

Visit Europe’s largest sand dune 148km, the Dune du Pilat where both the climb and the views will take your breath away! Reward yourself with fresh seafood from around the Bay of Arcachon or take the ferry to Cap Ferret and feel the sand between your toes whilst you enjoy oysters and chilled white wine.

Chocolate

Yes, we believe chocolate is also an activity… we often have to visit and make sure the quality is up to standard so we can continue to recommend it.
Maison Guinguet gourmet chocolate, 8km, just outside Duras, there is a lovely shop that also sells gifts and offers guided visits to their artisan factory in July and August.

Duras Castle

The famous Chateau de Duras, 8km away, is well worth a visit and if you can muster the energy to climb to the top and see the stunning 360-degree vista.

Tea room with gardens

Jardin de Boissona has six little gardens, each with its own character. Outside and inside seating. Especially known for their teas and delicious cakes. 10km, Baleyssagues near Duras.

Boat trips

Dordogne river trips are available on traditional boats in Bergerac with Les Gabarres de Bergerac. 40km.

Cycling and bike hire

The French countryside around this property is perfect for cycling whether it’s just a gentle ride around to explore or if you are a keen cyclist, a long training ride on fantastic stretches of road to get the blood pumping whilst taking in the fantastic views.
Maybe cycle to a cafe bar for a cold glass of something local or the chocolate shop!

Carbon road bike hire is available, collected from Bordeaux train station and you can ride back to your holiday villa using part of the old railway line (Roger Lapebie) which is now dedicated to cycling and walking.

Public tennis courts

Tennis courts are located in Monsegur, Saint-Vivien-de-Monségur, Duras and St Sernin de Duras and are usually booked via the local tourist information office.

Canoeing and kayaking

Canoe hire is available on the rivers. The river Dropt winds through the valley with a slow flow on it,
whilst the Dordogne river at Sainte Foy La Grande has a faster pace and has plenty of canoe hire opportunities.

Golf

There are pay and play golf courses within the area, the best being the beautiful Chateau Des Vigiers Golf and Country Club 27km. The chateau dates back to 1597 and is set in 450 acres of stunning countryside. Facilities also include a fine restaurant and a relaxing beauty spa. Local markets and supermarkets

Markets

Most villages and towns hold weekly markets full of fresh and interesting local produce. An ideal place to pick up your holiday mementoes and gifts too.

Duras (8km): Every Monday from 8.30 to 14:00 (closes at 12:00 from September to June). Nice market with excellent organic fruit and veg, organic goats cheese, foie gras and a selection of other stalls.

Allemans du Dropt (4km): Every Sunday morning.

Sainte Foy La Grande (31km): Every Saturday from 8.30 to 12:00. Big market with excellent producers and winner of “Favourite French Market” in 2014.

Monségur (15km): Every Friday from 8.30 to 12. Is a nice small market with a particularly good fish stall.

Issigeac (37km): Every Sunday morning. Extremely popular. Top tip – arrive early!

Eymet (16km): Every Thursday morning. Medieval town.

Night markets

Both Monsegur and Duras also have vibrant night markets during the peak summer months grab a bite to eat from one of the stalls and enjoy your food with a drink at one of the bars. There’s usually musical entertainment which creates a lively atmosphere.

“We loved this house, it is so beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The beds were super comfy. We loved all the shady areas in the gardens and the pool was perfect for cooling down after sunbathing in the hot French sunshine! Duras is a lovely, traditional town and the local markets are well worth a visit. In short, we can well recommend this property for a lovely relaxing holiday!

“Privacy in beautiful farmland and vineyards, spacious house and yard. Newly updated and new pool. Fabulous restaurants in every direction, great kitchen fully equipped incl washer dryer plus outdoor BBQ. Large rooms to spread out in. Excellent beds and pillows. Big screen TV with satellite and DVD player. Nice outdoor table and furniture for dining al fresco. Historical castles nearby. Couldn’t be better.
