Three bedrooms over two self contained French holiday gites with a private swimming pool situated in its own beautiful rural valley by a river. Near Poitiers / Limoges, Vienne, Poitou-Charentes, south west France.

The gites at Moulin Serein are nestled in a beautiful, quiet valley alongside a small shallow river. Both properties are rented together to ensure privacy and tranquillity for guests. There are two secluded cottages, a one bedroom (Le Four) and a two bedroom (Le Moulin), both with their own kitchen, living and outside space – perfect for a group of friends or a family.

Being by the river this helps to keep the gites cool in the summer months and room fans are provided in each bedroom.

The cottages were built in 1730 during the Renaissance and were owned by a community of monks. There were originally three buildings, one where the wheat was milled (working with a wheel), the mill and a further building where the flour was stored and baked in the bread oven. The mill and the oven supplied the surrounding area with flour and bread. With the appearance of flour mills, the mill and oven were decommissioned in 1929. The hospitable French owners have renovated two of the four buildings. Two of the barns are not used as they have not been converted.

Fancy a cooling paddle? The river is quite shallow, it generally has a run on it which mosquitoes do not like.
You can fish in the river which has trout in it. The mill pond is deep and has a mixture of fish including carp. Please provide your own fishing equipment.

This is a great area for walking as there are signposted walks that run from the property and can take you as far as 35km – although much shorter walks are possible.  Moulin Serein is an ideal place to escape everyday life, relax and enjoy the tranquility and freedom of the property, it’s facilities and the beautiful surrounding countryside and nature.

Cafe bar at Thollet 1.3 miles, 2.1km.

Shops, cafe / bar and restaurant are found in the local town of La Trimouille, located about 8 km away. There is also a small supermarket, bakery, pharmacy and public tennis courts.
A selection of larger supermarkets are located at Montmorillon which is approximately 25 mins drive.

The small hamlet of Thollet is just 2 km by road or approximately 1 mile to walk, there is a church and a small and very French bar.

Le Four and Le Moulin are set on a hillside with many steps and slopes so unfortunately they are not suitable for those with limited mobility.  Please see our photographs for further details.

All facilities are for your own private use. Should you wish to rent just one cottage we can offer a small reduction in price and the other cottage will remain closed.

A lovely tranquil spot and the mill has everything we needed. We’ve enjoyed the local walks hugely, we live in the mountains so the flatter ground was a pleasure.
It’s a perfect location to visit friends so i’m sure we’ll come back!
Thank you

Ian & Karina. September 2018

Peaceful, tranquil and well maintained
★ ★ ★ ★
Lovely tranquil and peaceful setting. The two properties are very close together and have full facilities in each one. The river area is very picturesque and there are a number of easy to follow walks in the area, or you can turn them into ‘runs’ as we did! The owners are very pleasant, keep to themselves, but are close by if needed. We went to Montmorillon for our main shop, the Leclerc is huge and also has a separate wine ‘cave’ store with higher end products. Local produce at the market there on Thursday. The pool, and all the grounds are well maintained. Plenty to do for our teenage children, including some tough competition on the Boules court. I expected mosquitos, being by the water, but didn’t see any at all, so that was a big bonus! We stayed in for family dinner / eating outside and BBQ every night, with both a gas and charcoal BBQ on hand. Great peaceful location, good properties at a fair price, would happily recommend it.

Holiday in France
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
The property was fantastic and in a great location with tranquil, wide open spaces. The children loved the freedom of being able to ramble through the French country-side and fish in the nearby rivers. The swimming pool was a very welcome feature as temperatures hit 38C during our stay. For food lovers, the local restaurants and bars are not that good and are few and far between, but this did not detract from a great holiday. The wildlife and night sky are both worth looking out for.
The owners live nearby to the Gite and are very friendly but discreet ensuring their guests have a good, uninterrupted holiday. We would recommend this Gite for all that it offers for a family holiday.

Water mill set in a picturesque tranquil valley by a small river. Private pool
Fantastic cottage in beautiful setting

★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Setting is superb. It is a wildlife paradise.Very rural which is what we wanted. Wi-Fi was very useful for keeping in touch with home. Owner is very helpful. I ended up in hospital for 3 days and she was ready with support for my husband. The landline was invaluable as mobile signal not good. Found out that the French hospital system is excellent. Most doctors spoke English and at the end of the stay they made no charge. Just relaxed in the sun for the remaining part of my holiday which helped recharge my batteries. Would have no hesitation in returning to the property. A credit to Pascale and Bernard. P.S A fan in the bedroom would be welcome.

Christine D. July 2016

We came here for the 2nd time, it’s  beautiful!
This year we were with friends.
There are many facilities like a swimming pool and a pingpong. Sometimes people come to the creek and we make fun all together.
The last few days the weather was not as good as before, but we still had fun.
Maybe we’ll come back next year for 2 weeks, 1 week is too short.
The house itself is beautiful, some things have changed this year like the bathroom.
So if things needs to be replaced, they will do it.
It’s really FANTASTIC!
Hopefully until next year.
