Puitsnoir is a welcoming, comfortable and cosy town house set on a semi-pedestrianised street in the heart of the historic town of Duras. Situated between Bordeaux, Bergerac and Saint Emilion near the border of the Dordogne in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region of south west France.

Not only set in the heart of the ancient town of duras but only 6 miles from the ancient Bastide town centre of Monsegur (Gironde). Both towns have a good selection of bars, restaurants, banks, shops and Carrefour supermarket. There are several pavement cafe’s where you can enjoy a drink and watch the world go by and two hotels serving food. One being the Hostellerie des Ducs which provides a beautiful setting for a special occasion and the food is superb.
Every Monday morning there is a traditional French market where local farmers sell their delicious produce ranging from freshly baked bread (a must!) to cured meats and of course, locally produced wine! If you can’t get enough of this “village life” experience, the market is also held every Friday morning in Monsegur.
During the summer months there are weekly night markets that the locals and tourists enjoy. There are many festivals and events going on throughout the region all year round, including a popular wine festival at the Chateau de Duras in August and the 24 Heures du Swing music festival in Monsegur in July.
The tourist information office located in the town and has an abundance of information on all the local attractions in the area.
WiFi internet connection is available at the tourist information office, one of the local bars may also have free WiFi. There is a 4g mobile signal throughout the town.

The large living room has a comfortable three piece suite set around a log burning stove, perfect for cosy nights in the winter months. There is a farmhouse dining table with six chairs. A CD & record player, video-TV system and a large library of books, videos and LP’s are sure to keep you entertained.
There is not any terrestrial or satellite TV.
A WC and wash basin are located on this floor.
A curved wrought-iron staircase leads you to the second floor which has a well equipped kitchen, a bathroom and 2 double bedrooms. The kitchen has a fridge, electric grill/oven, gas hob, toaster and a breakfast bar. There is a small ‘tub’ washing machine that fits over the kitchen sink but it is only suitable for ‘small items of laundry. The housekeeper can offer a washing service for a small charge.
Your roof terrace is on the top floor and is quite private with views over the rooftops, table and chairs.

Coast / Beach
A freshwater lake with sandy beach at Blasimon is just 22km away and is a popular attraction to take children for a day out. The gently shelving sand provides a safe, fun environment for splashing around and cooling off in the heat of the summer sun. Blasimon lake.
The famous sandy bay at Arcachon (146km) with Europe’s tallest sand dune, Dune du Pilat. This is the start of a 150 mile long sandy beach south past Biscarosse, or while the day away meander your way around Arcachon and enjoy a relaxing lunch in one of the many French restaurants.

Parking: You can unload outside the house but this is a semi pedestrianised road so you can’t park here as the road is so small, this is a very ancient town and it wasn’t built for cars back then. It’s a very small bastide town set up high on a hill, there is free parking all over, many places to park and car parks all within 2 minutes walk.

Puitsnoir is situated in Duras, a small historical town with bars and restaurants. Weekly farmers markets and weekly summer night markets.
Near the historical bastide town of Monsegur (6km) in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the borders of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, France.
Bordeaux city centre is a 75km drive to the west and Bergerac is 40km to the east, Saint Émilion 43km north.
This is the ideal base from which to explore South West France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.
This region is famous for its wines and wonderful gastronomy. Whether you are in St. Emilion, Pomerol, Blaye, The Médoc, Entre Deux Mers, Bourg, Graves or Sauterne the wines of the region are without doubt some of the very best in the world!
There are local producers near this holiday home that offer very good quality produce at a very reasonable price.
The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect cycling country!
Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops including cafes, bars and a pizzeria which host’s weekly live music.
There is also Cinema Eden in Monsegur, which does show international films in their original language version (VO), a selection of English speaking films with French subtitles.
The market squares are also hosts the many festivals and events throughout the year.
Wine and Gastronomy

The Bordeaux wine region has 21 appellations. Visit some of the many local Caves and Chateau who offer free tastings and tours while you choose a bottle or two.
Not to be missed is the world famous St Emilion. A designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.
Follow Rick Stein’s French Odyssey (Bordeaux to Bazas) trail across this region and encounter some of the best culinary experiences France has to offer.
This designated world heritage site is a must for all visitors. This cosmopolitan city offers a diverse range of attractions. The golden triangle has a fabulous range of shops for those shopaholics.
A rich variety of architecture forms the backdrop for the street cafes, restaurants, bars and not forgetting the superb Grand Theatre.
The Dordogne is just one of the many places to visit for day trips. Anything from Canoeing or boat trips on the Dordogne river to exploring ancient villages.

Visit Europe’s largest sand dune 151km, the Dune du Pilat where both the climb and the views will take your breath away! Reward yourself by feasting on fresh seafood around the Bay of Arcachon or take the ferry to Cap Ferret and feel the sand between your toes whilst you enjoy oysters and chilled white wine.

The countryside around our properties is popular for cycling, whether it’s just a gentle ride around to explore or, if you are a keen cyclist, a long training ride on fantastic stretches of road to get the blood pumping whilst taking in the fantastic views.

Yes we believe chocolate is also an activity… we often have to visit and make sure the quality is up to standard so we can continue to recommend this.
Maison Guinguet gourmet chocolate, they have a very nice shop to visit next to their artisan factory. 2km from Duras.
Public tennis courts
Good quality courts are located in Monsegur, Duras & St Sernin de Duras and are usually booked via the local tourist information office.
Canoeing and kayaking
Canoe hire is available on the rivers. The river Dropt winds through the valley with a slow flow on it.
The Dordogne river at Sainte Foy has a faster pace but has plenty of canoe hire opportunities and literally just go with the flow and be picked up further downstream. Of course the easiest way is a boat trip and let someone else do the work.

There are many pay and play golf courses within the area, the best being the beautiful Chateau Des Vigiers Golf and Country Club 19km. The chateau dates back to 1597 and is set in 450 acres of stunning countryside. Facilities also include a fine restaurant and relaxing beauty spa. Most villages and towns hold weekly markets full of fresh and interesting local produce. An ideal place to pick up your holiday mementoes and gifts.
Both Monsegur and Duras also have night markets during the summer where you can eat and have a drink as well as browse the many stalls.
Duras: Every Monday from 8.30 to 14:00 (closes at 12:00 from September to June). Nice market, excellent Organic veggies and fruit producer. Excellent organic goat cheese producers too… Foie gras, Magrets and many stalls of food/non food.
Allemans du Dropt (12km): Every Sunday morning.
Sainte Foy La Grande (21km): Every Saturday from 8.30 to 12:00. Quite big market with excellent producers.
Monségur: Every Friday from 8.30 to 12. Nice small market.
Issigeac (42km): Every Sunday morning.
Eymet (21km): Every Thursday morning.
From 1st of July till End of August, very successful, where you can eat and dance, with many craft and food stands. Go early if you want to park close to the village.
Duras Night market: Every Thursday evening till end of August.
Lévignac de Guyenne (6km) Night market: Every Friday evening till end of August. Every Friday evening till end of August.
Monsegur (10km) Night market. Every Wednesday evening till mid of September.
