Gite Soumaille is a cosy and contemporary holiday gite with shared use of the pool (used occasionally by the owners and family). The nearest restaurant is just 3km. Pardaillan, near Eymet and Duras, situated between Bordeaux, Bergerac and Saint Emilion near the border of the Dordogne in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region of south-west France.

This charming accommodation is ideal for a couple looking for a getaway from it all holiday in this unspoiled region of SW France. Set amongst 10 acres of land in a tranquil location; the gite is attached to the welcoming and discreet owner’s house, a mature couple and their daughter. There is a seating area at the front of the gite and a pretty, walled garden with planting including wonderfully scented Jasmine in addition to the use of the large grounds.

There are pets on site which include 2 donkeys, 2 cats and some chickens.

Accommodation and facilities

Open plan accommodation comprising of a bedroom area, well-equipped kitchenette, dining space and a lounge area which has a double sofa bed suitable for a small child. There is a separate modern shower room with a washbasin and wc. There is hanging space in a cupboard and a chest of drawers for clothes. A cot can be provided on request.

Whilst there is no washing machine in the gite, from 2020 the owner will be happy to provide a washing service for a nominal charge of 5€ per load.

Swimming Pool

The pool measures 10m x 5m, is 1.5m deep and has an alarm. A large sun terrace with 4 sun loungers and 2 parasols provides a lovely space to relax poolside.
The pool is shared with the owners and family who use it on an occasional basis.

Outside space and gardens

There are 10 acres of land in total which you are free to explore through the woodland walks from the house with wonderful valley views.
A lovely private walled garden provides space to relax with a drink and a good book and a covered dining terrace.

A 25% deposit secures a reservation with the balance payable 8 weeks before rental commencement.
A security bond of £500 is pre-authorised against a credit card 7 – 10 days before arrival and will be cancelled subject to satisfactory inspection after departure.

The local area and what to do, Monsegur / Duras, Bordeaux and the Dordogne, France

Duras centre is 9km away and the nearest supermarket at Duras is 8km away through country roads. The ancient town of Duras where there are bars, restaurants, banks and shops as well as a traditional weekly market every Monday morning and a bustling night market every Thursday in the height of the summer months. Allemans du Dropt (7km) has a restaurant, bar, bakers and butcher.
Many more towns and villages to explore locally.

The nearest restaurant is at Auriac sur Dropt 3km away or a 30 minutes walk down a country lane Le Camelia Restaurant.

Bordeaux city centre is 84km drive to the west and Bergerac is 37km to the northeast, Saint Emilion 52km northwest.

This is the ideal base from which to explore South West France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.

The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect cycling country!

Duras (9km), Monsegur (18km), Eymet (14km) and Sainte Foy la Grande (25km), the ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops including cafes, bars and a pizzeria which hosts weekly live music. There are many more similar towns and villages to explore, most with their own weekly markets and events.
There is also Cinema Eden in Monsegur, which does show international films in their original language version (VO), a selection of English speaking films with French subtitles.

The market squares are also hosting many festivals and events throughout the year.

Wine and Gastronomy

The Bordeaux wine region has 21 appellations. Visit some of the many local Caves and Chateau that offer free tastings and tours while you choose a bottle or two.

Not to be missed is the world-famous Saint Emilion (52km), just a short drive away. A designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.

Bordeaux

This designated world heritage site is a must for all visitors. This cosmopolitan city offers a diverse range of attractions. The golden triangle has a fabulous range of shops for those shopaholics.
A rich variety of architecture forms the backdrop for the street cafes, restaurants, bars and not forgetting the superb Grand Theatre.

Dordogne

The Dordogne is just one of the many places to visit for day trips. Anything from Canoeing or boat trips on the Dordogne river to exploring ancient villages.

Sandy beach at Casteljaloux freshwater lake, 54km. Aqua fun Park with a huge lake, picnic benches, walks, facilities, sandy beach, water sports, and kids’ play area….. it’s great for the whole family.

A freshwater lake with a sandy beach just 38km away at Blasimon.

Visit Europe’s largest sand dune (159km), the Dune du Pilat where both the climb and the views will take your breath away! Reward yourself by feasting on fresh seafood around the Bay of Arcachon or take the ferry to Cap Ferret and feel the sand between your toes whilst you enjoy oysters and chilled white wine.

The countryside around our properties is popular for cycling, whether it’s just a gentle ride around to explore or if you are a keen cyclist, a long training ride on fantastic stretches of road to get the blood pumping whilst taking in the fantastic views.

Carbon road bike hire in Bordeaux, they will deliver to Bordeaux train station for free, they do not deliver to your door but if you are a serious cyclist just ride the bike back to your holiday villa. Carbon road bike hire Bordeaux.

Chocolate

Yes, we believe chocolate is also an activity… we often have to visit and make sure the quality is up to standard so we can continue to recommend this.
Maison Guinguet gourmet chocolate, they have a very nice shop to visit next to their artisan factory. 9km.

Tree adventure and climbing park

Just 17km, climbing through the trees and zip wire, fun for all the family, ideal for all ages. Playground and snack bar. Des chênes toi Aventure

Wildlife park, animals, zoo

Parc du Griffon, animals, play areas and refreshments are just a 9-minute drive, 18km away. Parc du Griffon

Public tennis courts

Good quality courts are located in Monsegur, Duras & St Sernin de Duras and are usually booked via the local tourist information centres.

Canoeing and kayaking

Canoe hire is available on the rivers. The river Dropt winds through the valley with a slow flow on it.
The Dordogne river at Sainte Foy has a faster pace but plenty of canoes hire opportunities and literally just go with the flow and be picked up further downstream. Of course, the easiest way is a boat trip and letting someone else do the work.

Golf

There are many pay-and-play golf courses within the area, the best being the beautiful Chateau Des Vigiers Golf and Country Club 21km. The chateau dates back to 1597 and is set in 450 acres of stunning countryside. Facilities also include a fine restaurant and a relaxing beauty spa. Markets

Most villages and towns hold weekly markets full of fresh and interesting local produce. An ideal place to pick up your holiday mementoes and gifts.
Both Monsegur and Duras also have night markets during the summer where you can eat and have a drink as well as browse the many stalls.

Duras: Every Monday from 8.30 to 14:00 (closes at 12:00 from September to June). Nice market, excellent Organic veg’s & fruit producer, Nicolas. Excellent organic goat cheese producers too… Foie gras, Magrets and so on, many stands of food/non-food.
Sainte Foy La Grande (24km): Every Saturday from 8.30 to 12:00. Quite a big market with excellent producers.
Monségur 17km: Every Friday from 8.30 to 12. Nice small market with a good fish stall and a good butcher.
Issigeac (40km): Every Sunday morning.
Eymet (14km): Every Thursday morning.

Night markets

From 1st of July till End of August, very successful, where you can eat and dance, with many craft and food stalls. Go early if you want to park close to the village.
Duras night market: Every Thursday evening till end of August.
Lévignac de Guyenne (13km) Night market: Every Friday evening till the end of August.
Monsegur Night market. Every Wednesday evening till mid of September.

Carrefour Contact supermarket – just out of Duras on the direction of Sainte Foy La Grande. Small but very well stocked (includes an English section). Open from 8 am to 8 pm nonstop from Mondays to Saturdays. Sundays from 9am to 1pm.

Baker – Boulangerie, Rue Paul Persil, in Duras. Excellent croissants, fantastic cornflour and rustic bread. Closed on Tuesday and Sunday afternoons.

Butchers – Boucherie Evrard – Rue Paul Persil, in Duras. Good butcher, next to the Place du Marché. Closed on Tuesday a Sunday afternoon.

Wow this wonderful Gite is truly stunning great everything fantastic hosts four legged and two!
Amazing little touches Post Its ” and pens never used the TV and other wonderful kit, very well equipped kitchen with teas, coffee, fresh milks, cordials ( great books sadly not enough time to read ! Stunning location a huge flock of cranes flew over at dusk! Easy access to all the local towns and villages and (not to be advised) but not one grumble for arriving at 11pm and personal torch escort up the long drive from the road and was offered food amazing, Thanks so much fab few days.
