Gemard, a cosy 1 bedroom holiday cottage for two with a private swimming pool near Bordeaux, Bergerac and Saint Emilion in south west France.
Gemard is a charming 1 bedroom holiday cottage with it’s own entrance and private pool set in the grounds of the owners property; who whilst can be on hand for help or advice afford privacy to guests during their stay. Nestled amongst the rolling countryside of this beautiful region it is rare to find accommodation like this suitable for 2 people with a good sized private pool.
All of the accommodation is on the ground floor with just one step into the bedroom.
Just a 2.5km walk to rural cafe / bar and daily bread, the walk or cycle is along quiet country lanes.

The living area has a sofa and coffee table set in front of the feature fireplace which houses a wood burning stove for the cooler times of the year. There is a small TV with English Freesat UK channels. The main door leads onto the pool terrace and there is also another door which leads onto the 2nd private courtyard and BBQ area.
A laundry room with washing machine is located in the main house, guests have use of this and can access it from the outside.
The spacious bedroom is simply and tastefully furnished with a full size wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The large bed measures 185cm wide x 200cm long. There are dual aspect views over the pool at the front and orchards at the rear.
The bed can be split into 2 single beds if required.
Located between the bedroom and living area. Shower cubicle, wash basin, WC and towel rail.
The private 10m x 5m pool (depth ranges from 1m -2m) and terrace offer seclusion with seating and sun loungers placed in various spots to ensure you get the most of the sun throughout the day. There is a covered pergola with comfy sofa’s where you can relax in the shade; and a table and chairs for alfresco eating.
Outside space and garden
A gateway leads through to a picturesque courtyard which has additional table and chairs and original bread oven that is now used as a BBQ. From this courtyard you can access the rear garden space which has an exterior grade ping pong table which overlooks the surrounding plum orchard. You are welcome to walk the orchards and on the opposite side of the road from Gemard there are vineyards and far reaching valley views.

Monsegur, Duras and most of the surrounding towns have traditional weekly markets. Both have a selection of shops, bars and restaurants as well as Banks/ATM’s, boulangeries and a pharmacie.

Located in the heart of the Bordeaux famous wine region where there are plenty of vineyards for tastings and tours. The picturesque towns of Duras and Monsegur are a short drive to excellent dining and shopping and the local farmhouses and countryside perfect for exploring.
Coast / Beach
A fresh water lake with sandy beach at Blasimon is just 24km away and is a popular attraction to take children for a day out. The gently shelving sand provides a safe, fun environment for splashing around and cooling off in the heat of the summer sun. Blasimon lake.
The famous sandy bay at Arcachon (146km) with Europes tallest sand dune, Dune du Pilat. This is the start of a 150 mile long sandy beach south past Biscarosse, or while the day away meander your way around Arcachon and enjoy a relaxing lunch in one of the many French restaurants.

The local area and what to do, Monsegur / Duras, Bordeaux and the Dordogne, France
Gemard is situated near the towns of Monsegur (5km) and Duras (9km) in the region of Aquitaine within the Bordeaux wine region and on the borders of the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne, France.
Bordeaux city centre is a 70km drive to the west and Bergerac is 47km to the east, Saint Émilion 40km north.
This is the ideal base from which to explore South West France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France.
This region is famous for its wines and wonderful gastronomy. Whether you are in St. Emilion, Pomerol, Blaye, The Médoc, Entre Deux Mers, Bourg, Graves or Sauterne the wines of the region are without doubt some of the very best in the world!
There are local producers near this holiday home that offer very good quality produce at a very reasonable price.
The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect cycling country!
Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops including cafes, bars and a pizzeria which host’s weekly live music.
There is also Cinema Eden in Monsegur, which does show international films in their original language version (VO), a selection of English speaking films with French subtitles.
The market squares are also hosts the many festivals and events throughout the year.
Wine and Gastronomy
So many Vineyards and wine tastings in the area, the nearest are:
1.7km, 3 Faurie, 33580 Dieulivol. Tasting available, the sparkling is a good option.
2.3km. Good table wine especially the red, this will be the first year for the rose, ideally by the box, buy direct only, part of the Accrobranche park.
The Bordeaux wine region has 21 appellations. Visit some of the many local Caves and Chateau who offer free tastings and tours while you choose a bottle or two.
Not to be missed is the world famous St Emilion 50km. A designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.

This designated world heritage site is a must for all visitors. This cosmopolitan city offers a diverse range of attractions. The golden triangle has a fabulous range of shops for those shopaholics.
A rich variety of architecture forms the backdrop for the street cafe’s, restaurants, bars and not forgetting the superb Grand Theatre.
The Dordogne is just one of the many places to visit for day trips. Anything from Canoeing or boat trips on the Dordogne river to exploring ancient villages.

Visit Europe’s largest sand dune 135km, the Dune du Pilat where both the climb and the views will take your breath away! Reward yourself by feasting on fresh seafood around the Bay of Arcachon or take the ferry to Cap Ferret and feel the sand between your toes whilst you enjoy oysters and chilled white wine.
The countryside around our properties is perfect for cycling, whether it’s just a gentle ride around to explore or, if you are a keen cyclist, a long training ride on fantastic stretches of road to get the blood pumping whilst taking in the fantastic views.

Yes we believe chocolate is also an activity… we often have to visit and make sure the quality is up to standard so we can continue to recommend this.
Maison Guinguet gourmet chocolate, they have a very nice shop to visit next to their artisan factory. 2km from Duras.

Good quality courts are located in Monsegur, Duras & St Sernin de Duras and are usually booked via the local tourist information office.
Canoeing and kayaking
Canoe hire is available on the rivers. The river Dropt winds through the valley with a slow flow on it.
The Dordogne river at Sainte Foy has a faster pace but has plenty of canoe hire opportunities and literally just go with the flow and be picked up further down stream. Of course the easiest way is a boat trip and let some one else do the work.

There are many pay and play golf courses within the area, the best being the beautiful Chateau Des Vigiers Golf and Country Club 27km. The chateau dates back to 1597 and is set in 450 acres of stunning countryside. Facilities also include a fine restaurant and relaxing beauty spa. Most villages and towns hold weekly markets full of fresh and interesting local produce. An ideal place to pick up your holiday mementoes and gifts.
Both Monsegur and Duras also have night markets during the summer where you can eat and have a drink as well as browse the many stalls.
Duras: Every Monday from 8.30 to 14:00 (closes at 12:00 from September to June). Nice market, excellent Organic veg’s & fruit producer. Excellent organic goat cheese producers too… Foie gras, Magrets and many other stands of food/non food.
Allemans du Dropt (20km): Every Sunday morning.
Sainte Foy La Grande (26km): Every Saturday from 8.30 to 12:00. Quite big market with excellent producers.
Monségur: Every Friday from 8.30 to 12. Nice small market with a good fish stall and butcher.
Issigeac (50km): Every Sunday morning.
Eymet (29km): Every Thursday morning.
From 1st of July till End of August, very successful, where you can eat and dance, with many craft and food stands. Go early if you want to park close to the village.

Lévignac de Guyenne (13km) Night market: Every Friday evening till end of August.
