There are local producers nearby that offer excellent quality wines at a very reasonable prices through to the higher end of the market.

The gently rolling countryside is a pleasure to explore, with excellent roads winding their way through fields and vineyards. Perfect walking and cycling country!

Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops, cafés, bars, restaurants and excellent boulangeries in both towns, our favourite being La Choco-Latine in Monsegur who were runners up in the French TV show “La Meilleure Boulangerie de France” in 2019.

We also love the volunteer run Cinema Eden in Monsegur which shows some international films in their original language version (VOSTF) with French subtitles.

The market squares host a variety of festivals and events throughout the year including Monsegur’s famous 24 Heures de Swing at the beginning of July every year.

Just returned from another fantastic week at the Grand Maine Gite.
The gite is fabulous with everything you could wish for including an amazing pool.
Hosts Jan & Andy are excellent hosts and are always on hand to offer friendly advice if needed.
I seriously can’t recommend it enough and I’ll defiantly be back next year.

What a lovely place to spend the most perfect holiday. Jan &Andy were there to greet us when we arrived and showed us to our holiday retreat. The Gite is immaculate and easily accommodated all six of us. Although Jan & Andy live in the lower part of the Gite, it was private and you really wouldn’t know they were there. We had everything we needed in the upper level. Three good sized and immaculate bedrooms, spotless shower room and toilet , well equipped kitchen and a lovely airy and light sitting room with freeview tv. Most of our time was spent by the private pool in our own private garden which was huge. Nothing was too much trouble for Jan & Andy and they recommended a whole host of activities including live music and bbq at the local vineyard!
We all would like to say a massive thankyou, we had perfect holiday and look forward to returning.

Thank you for an amazing week. We wanted a week of tranquility and escape and we weren’t disappointed. The hosts, Jan and Andy, were wonderful, keeping us informed on activities in the local area and providing us with a clean and well equipped accommodation, whilst respecting our privacy. There were six of us in total and yet there was plenty of space for us all. We enjoyed a walk to the local Boulangerie each morning to taste the most delicious selection of pastries and bread. We were blessed with incredible weather and found everyone very welcoming. Whilst there was plenty of opportunity to explore we were very content staying by the wonderful pool. The balcony is a wonderful area to sit and have breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening. All in all, a superb place to stay. Thankyou Jan and Andy, our holiday was parfait!

If you want to sample amazing food THIS IS ALSO THE PLACE! (a visit to Familie Moutier is a must)

Andy and Jan are knowledgable, thoughtful and considerate hosts who go out of their way to ensure you have the best holiday. The only thing that would improve le gite Gande Maine would if Andy had a new seat for the tractor!! 😄

Thanks for everything – hope to see you again.

I have just returned from weeks holiday at Le Grand Maine. The Gite was immaculate, extremely comfortable, very well equipped, set in a fantastic location.
Lovely pool, big, warm and set within such a tranquil setting, so relaxing and great for the whole family.
Andy and Jan were the perfect hosts, on hand if I needed anything, nothing was too much trouble, they are also very knowledgeable about the area which is a great help when planning days out. I can’t recommend Le Grand Maine highly enough it’s a wonderful place and I had a wonderful time. I shall be returning!

Fabulous
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Le Grande Maine occupies a little piece of heaven surrounded by vineyards and fruit trees. The sky stretches above you endlessly and the peace is only disturbed by the hum of a tractor or the odd passing car.
Andy and Jan have worked hard to create a haven for guests and they are the perfect hosts. They have thought of everything to make the gite comfortable and well-appointed.
With a hire car and quiet roads it is possible to visit many places of interest in the vicinity. There are some great restaurants but also a bakery and several supermarkets if you choose to cook.
We had a wonderful time at Le Grande Maine and look forward to returning.

Amazing!
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Wow, wow and wow!
This was our second visit to Le Grand Maine and whilst we didn’t think it could get any better it did!

The Gite was immaculate and had been updated since our last visit and the beds were still the most comfortable beds we’ve slept in!

The pool – wow – just so lovely, big, warm and set within such a tranquil setting, well until our kids got in it!

Andy and Jan were the perfect hosts – they were on hand if we needed them but certainly not imposing in any way. The little welcome touches on arrival were a lovely gesture too and it was lovely to be able to spend some time with them on our last night at the bbq.

We last visited back in June 2012 when the kids were much younger so coming back in August was great as we were able to go to a night market in the area every night and the Friday night bbq at the vineyard which was situated behind the Gite – brilliant evening with both locals and tourists with a live band too.

Canoeing was another highlight – we went from sainte foye le grande (might have spelt that wrong) and the team there were great.

Hope to be back again soon.

The Perfect Stay
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
I can not recommend the Grand Maine highly enough. Any minor concerns about staying above the owners were quickly dispelled, Jan and Andy were the perfect owners, attentive when required, maintained their distance when we wanted peace. The gite is perfectly appointed and attentively maintained. The pool a great place to sunbathe or cool off after a lovely day visiting one of the many local attractions. We arrived as strangers and now feel like we have friends for life. It was truly one of our best ever holidays.

Accommodation was perfect. Jan and Andy were perfect hosts who went way beyond expectations to create the perfect holiday, the location was wonderfully quiet. All in all we had a perfect stay.

Beautiful location and perfect hosts who are always on hand to share their local knowledge.
We’ve been coming to France for over 10 years and genuinely this has been our best visit yet.
Thanks ever so much.

I feel that I cannot leave a review about Le Grande Maine as that would mean everybody would want to go and I don’t want anybody else to discover what we have. I don’t want anybody else to know what a fabulous place this is, in a fabulous location with fabulous hosts. I don’t want anybody else to say how great the pool is, or how comfy the beds are or the fact that you don’t need to take anything with you apart from your clothes. I don’t want anybody else to know that Le Grande Maine backs on to a vineyard and there is a gate from the garden to the vineyard shop! ( the wine is great by the way ). I’m not go to tell you anything, you’re going to have to find out for yourselves, but just be careful who you tell because they’ll all want to go and I’m afraid it’s mine!!!

Fantastic Gite, lovely hosts great location stunning property, great pool, weather was good and so relaxing. The gite is a great base to explore the vineyards and the wonderful towns nearby all within easy driving range. The gite itself has great facilities and everything you need – any questions and Jan and Andy are on hand to answer. You cannot go wrong with this fab place – we will be back and I am telling friends to book up as well.

Andy and Jan the hosts made us very welcome, nothing was too much trouble for them. The setting idyllic, peaceful and charming. Short distance from the Airport. The property is in a quiet location surrounded by grapevines and plum tress bordering a vineyard next door to taste the local wines. It is close to the lovely village of Villeneuve de Duras and villages of interest. Le Grad Maine itself was very impressive and exceptionally clean!.

Many thanks we will return !

Just come back from Grand Maine Gite after a wonderful few days away with friends, the Gite was everything we wanted and more with the facilities it offers set in lovely grounds with the addition of a heated swimming pool. Jan & Andy were great hosts who recommended lots of places for us to visit and restaurants to try and nothing disappointed. My friends and I will definitely be returning for another memorable holiday soon.

Just spent a fabulous holiday at Le Grande Maine. The gite is perfect and has everything you could wish for, even down to the heated swimming pool. Owners Jan & Andy made us very welcome and we benefited greatly from their knowledge of the local area. We will defiantly be going back.

A great location, we’ve enjoyed the peace and tranquility. The kids have enjoyed the wifi & pool! Jan and Andy have gone out of their way to make it all the more enjoyable, it’s the small things that make a bog difference. We will be recommending to family and friends.
Hope to see you again.

what an Amazing week! We feel very relaxed (even with a crazy 3 year old in tow!) The kids have loved the pool and fruit picking. We have love the tranquility and wine! Thank you so much Andy and Jan for your warm welcome ideas for trips out and for not moaning about how early our kids get up!
We will definitely be back!

Perfect holiday

The location and accommodation was excellent for our family. We enjoyed exploring the local area and then relaxing by the pool. Jan and Andy really looked after us and cannot recommend this holiday enough. We are not a family that ever returns to the same area / resort where we have previously holidayed but this will definitely be the exception!
